Saints of July 29: Santa Marta

Marta means “lady, head of household”.

In Bethany, a village near Jerusalem, there lived a family of which the Gospel tells a beautiful praise “Jesus loved Martha, Mary and their brother Lazarus.” Difficult to find a nice detail about a family: they were very loved by Jesus.

The first two years of his ministry, Jesus spent much time in the province of Galilee, north of the country. But in the third year he moved to Judea in the south, and with him his disciples. In Jerusalem the stay was quite dangerous at night because he had sworn enemies fight to the death and sought every occasion to kill the Redeemer. But here, four miles from Jerusalem, was a quiet and friendly village in a home where Jesus he felt good. It was the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. This house always had a room ready and well arranged to receive the Divine Master, any day when they arrived. And three hearts truly friends of Jesus, waiting for him with brotherly affection. There Jesus felt at home. (St. Martha is the patron saint of hoteliers, knowing take good). No wonder the Gospel says that Jesus loved Martha, Mary and Lazarus. How good was that each of our homes could say what the Bible says the home of three lucky people.

Celebrity has become the scene happened one day when Jesus came to Bethany with his 12 apostles and the holy women (mothers of some apostles, etc). Martha ran to and fro preparing food, arranging rooms, carrying refreshments for thirsty travelers. Jesus as always, taking those moments of rest, began to give wise instructions to his disciples. Listening to Christ is the most beautiful thing can exist. He was sitting in an armchair and others atentísimos, sitting on the floor listening. And there, amid all of them, sitting on the floor was also Mary, the sister of Martha, rapt, listening as formidable teaching.

Martha suddenly stops short in their tasks and approaching Jesus says confidently: “Lord, how do you think my sister has left me to myself with all the trade of the house? Why do not you say you help me a little in this task? “.

And Jesus with a soft smile and gentle tone replied: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Only one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken.” Martha understood the lesson and rolling up his apron, also sat there on the floor to listen to divine instruction from the Savior. Now I knew that all material cares not worth as much as listening to the teachings that come from the sky and learn to achieve eternal salvation.

San Juan narrates in Chapter 11 “It happened one day Lazarus got sick, got worse and began to show signs of very serious was going to die. And Jesus was away. The two sisters sent an employee with this simple message: Lord the one you love is ill. What a beautiful way to convey the news. We know you love him, and if you love what you are going to help.

But Jesus (which was across the Jordan) did not move from where it was. A new messenger and Jesus is not coming. The apostles said to them: “This disease will be for the glory of God.” And then he adds: “Our friend Lazarus has died. And I’m glad that this happened without my having been there, ProQuad are you now believe.”

After four days dead Lazarus, Jesus decided to go Bethany, the house was full of friends and acquaintances who had come to offer condolences to the two sisters. As soon as Martha heard that Jesus was coming, met him and said, Oh Lord, if you had been here my brother had not died, but even now I know how much you ask of God will give you.
Jesus said, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha replies, I know he will rise on the last day in the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus said: I am the resurrection and life. Everyone who believes in me, though he die, shall live Do you believe this?

Martha said, Yea, Lord, I believe You are the Christ, the Son of God, who had to come to the world.

Wonderful profession of faith made by this holy woman. Blessed Marta did Jesus tell truths so formidable.

Jesus said, “Where have you placed?” And when Martha and mourn his companions, Jesus began to mourn. And the people remarked: “See how he loved him.”

And it was the tomb was a cave with a stone at the entrance. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha replied, “Lord and smells bad because it is buried four days.” Jesus said “Do not you think I said that if you see the glory of God?”. Jesus took away the stone and said aloud, “Lazarus, come out.” And the dead came forth, bearing the suadrio and bandages from his hands.
Santa Marta blessed, do not forget to pray to Jesus for Lazarus dead many we have in our families. They are living in mortal sin. Christ the Savior comes to our homes and resurrect those dead in sin and free from eternal death, through a true conversion.

Jesus said if you think you will see the glory of God.
